When people attempt to feed cetaceans there is the chance that they may be accidentally bitten or injured while feeding. On the other hand the animals themselves maybe harmed if they are fed inappropriate or bad food. There is also the possibility that over time, if they are regularly fed they may get into the habit of approaching boats where they can become a nuisance by begging or become accidentally damaged by a careless boat driver.
