Respect their Space

Those who wish to pet and baby wild animals love them. But those who respect their natures and wish to let them live normal lives, love them more.

-Edwin Way Teale

Touching or jumping into the water with these animals is an invasion of their space and can make them uncomfortable. Imagine a stranger running into your house uninvited, trying to follow you around and interfering with your activities when you were doing something important, personal or wanted to be alone. It would be annoying and could be frightening too.

Never forget that whales and dolphins are large, wild animals and do not naturally trust humans, they may attack out of fear for themselves and their calves or because they are annoyed by your presence. Dolphins sometime show their annoyance among each other by biting and they may do the same to you.

If you are in the water and you see dolphins or whales feel free to stay and enjoy them but do not attempt to follow them around or touch them. Be relaxed and let them be in charge of how close they get to you.
